Third week
This week we went over copyright and what it actually means. Copyright is there to basically protect the authors original works of authorship. Also, you should not Plagiaries anything and think you could get away with it. A lot of the big companies have robots that check the web to see if anybody is using their images or names without permission. I learned that you should cite something first so you don't forget to do it and have to deal with it later. I almost forgot about the scholarly articles. During the first day of class this week we watched two amusing videos on scholarly articles. Even though they had amusement in there it still got to the point and gave us important information. We talked about the different resources we can use such as the CAT to find information that is more reliable than most. Also, we covered the difference between a popular book and a book meant to give information. The popular book had more color and things that just make you want to grab it and read it. But the book that was suppose to give more information on the topic was dull and had no color. I found it funny that the book you should be reading is the dull boring one and the one with a little bit of information is the colorful one. But I guess it makes since. I also questioned why would the author that gives us the real important information make the book so dull and boring.

Your last line, I think, is the most important thing we learned this week in LST. I'm the type that will start a paper, get up, do something else, and come back to it later. I would probably be the one to forget to cite my work, but after this class, I will make sure that I don't!
ReplyDeleteI think that the point about making the helpful book look boring and dull is silly because if you want people to enjoy reading information and learning, then make it look fun. Also, I think they make it boring to read informational books because it makes it easier to find the info, rather than reading between the lines and having to search if it was fun.
